locr personalized maps are designed to meet a variety of business goals. They can be prepared in many different styles and formats.
Best of all, including a map in your application is easy. Follow these simple steps to learn how to choose the right map, customize the map style, and prepare your address data.
locr animated video maps also come in three varieties: LOCALvideos, NAVIvideos and MULTIvideos.
Choose the kind of map
Maps can be created as graphic images for printing or to use in emails or web pages. These can be LOCALmaps, NAVImaps or MULTImaps. They can also be created as videos which can zoom in and out and animate the progress of a journey.
LOCALmaps show one or more locations near a recipient’s home or business address
NAVimaps show the route from a recipient’s address to one or more locations
MULTImaps combine a NAVImap with LOCALmaps in one image to show a route and the local area at the destination
These maps can be almost any size. We automatically calculate the scale and amount of detail on each one to get the best visual appearance, and we always ensure that street and places names are not clipped at the edges.
Customize your map
You have complete control over many features of the style and format of your personalized map.
Choose one of our custom icons to mark locations on your maps or use your image such as a brand logo. The routes in NAVImaps can be in any color. You can even have destination names, addresses and distances on each map – all uniquely based on your data.
What makes every locr variable map unique is your data. Accurate maps need to have good quality postal addresses. We can help you achieve that level of quality with locr GEOservices.
The postal addresses you provide in a CSV or Excel file mailing list are converted to geocodes to generate personalized maps. A geocode is a precise latitude and longitude of the address that is used to show the location on a map and calculate routes and distances between locations.
Choose your map style
locr maps are available in a range of styles to suit different applications. For printed and online direct marketing applications there are three which are most suitable. They are optimized for urban areas but differ slightly in the coloring of roads and parks.
You can select the style which best complements the colors of brand logos and icons on your maps. Our default style is locr maps Style 3 unless you specify a different one for your campaign.
locr maps Style 1
This style is for colorful maps in which the major roads are strongly highlighted and terrain types are gently shaded for a 3D effect. They are more suited to larger areas to show the major routes between cities and towns as well as any custom coloring of a route in a NAVImap.
locr maps Style 2
The coloring of all the main roads in this style is in familiar orange or yellow shades. When used for LOCALmaps or NAVImaps, any pins or custom routes in contrasting colors will clearly stand out.
locr maps Style 3
This is a 2D style which flattens out the terrain shading and also reduces the contrast between background colors. It has been optimized by us to help brand logos and travel routes stand out very well. It is the most popular style for direct mail designs.
locr maps Style 4
This is a new style which emphasizes the shading of mountainous areas for an attractive 3D effect. It can be used to add interest in direct mail maps where there are longer distances or less urbanized areas involved.
locr maps Style 5
For cartographic applications such as photobooks or tourism maps this style enhances the terrain of rural or wilderness areas. The terrain is more strongly colored and shaded than the roads for a dramatic 3D and “satellite view” effect. It is not suitable for showing urban areas or for use in typical direct mail applications.
