Oldenburg and Braunschweig, Germany – May 23, 2016 – CEWE, Europe’s number one photo book company and locr GmbH, the leading provider of personalized maps, today announce that CEWE has enhanced its Photoworld Creator Software to include the latest generation of personalized maps from locr. This update gives CEWE customers access to a range of map styles they can use to enhance the popular travel and holiday themed photo books they create using the CEWE service.
Since 2011, the integration with locr has allowed CEWE customers to include dynamically generated maps in their photo books. With the introduction of locr’s next generation technology, customers can access maps that have a level of quality and detail not seen before in consumer-created photo products.
“Since more and more customers use photos from mobile devices and reflex cameras to create their CEWE photo book, the geodata are a great new possibility to make a photobook even more informative and interesting. Suggesting maps automatically based on geodata leverages the CEWE photo book assistant’s attractiveness. The free creation of map cutouts and map designs are attractive ways of creating for enthusiasts”, explains Dr. Fageth, Chief Technical Officer of CEWE.
The “Meine CEWE FOTOWELT” Software enables customers to create personalized travel journals and holiday albums in form of a CEWE photobook, which can be enhanced with the addition of informative, perfectly-crafted maps that detail the location of where the pictures were taken. The user simply uploads their photo to the book design they created with “Meine CEWE FOTOWELT” software. Using the geodata taken from the GPS-enabled cameras on a smartphone, the solution automatically detects the locations where photos were taken. The customer can see a map of the area around the location and instantly download a high quality version of the map to position in their photo book layout. They can select the scale of the map, and choose from different styles of maps suitable for city locations, countryside and mountains.
The new generation of maps provided by locr GmbH is possible because locr has recently selected OpenStreetMap (OSM) as the data provider for their range of personalized and dynamically created maps. The data in OSM comes from a global community of users who update and add to the OSM database continuously to ensure the data is always current and valid.
locr takes the data supplied by OSM and applies their proprietary solution to generate accurate, up-to-date personalized maps in a range of familiar visual styles that can be used in many different professional and consumer applications such as photo books.
Holger Urbanksy, Managing Director of locr, says “At locr, we are committed to helping our customers use location to their best advantage. Moving to OSM helps us to keep that commitment. It gives us the data we need to create personalized maps that include even more detail and information than before. With OSM as the foundation, we have used our cartographic expertise and creative freedom to create a range of map styles of the highest quality for photo books and other printed products. We are delighted that CEWE have incorporated the new generation of maps into their popular service”.
